- OHIO BMV - Next of Kin NotificationPosted on: 2010-02-09While in the process of renewing my driver's license I was informed of the ability to register contact information with the Ohio BMV that would be available to a police officer in an emergency and particularly if you are unable to communicate with law enforcement or medical personnel. Although I sent a form, it is a five minute process on the website listed on the top of the form.
Not sure if this is relatively new or has been around a year or so, but in any case I think it has some benefit in the event of an accident.
BMV Next of Kin - Emergency Contact Enrollment Form - Car FirePosted on: 2009-11-05Hi All,
As some of you may know, we had a pretty scary incident recently. Attached are pictures of what remains of our 2007 Suburban. We are all okay but I wanted to warn everyone not to make the same mistake I did.
This fire resulted from leaving an iPhone charger/docking station plugged into the car outlet. It overheated and started a fire, while parked in our garage. PLEASE unplug anything you have in your car outlets once you turn off your car!
We were VERY fortunate that we found the fire, at 11pm, before going to bed and before it spread to the house. None of our garage heat detectors or house fire alarms went off (another item to take care of on my “to do” list). Feel free to pass this along to anyone you want. Better safe than sorry.

- PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHTPosted on: 2008-12-08If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off/reset it with the button on the key fob chain or the car battery dies. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around... after a few seconds the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and criminals don't want that.
It's a security alarm system that you already have and requires no installation. Carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot, the alarm can work the same way if you need it.
A person could also carry their car keys with them while working outside in case they fall and cannot get up. It is useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, when a person can't reach a phone, as it would draw attention from the neighbors.
If it saves a life or prevents an assault it is worth doing.
Test it. - In Case of Emergency ( ICE )Posted on: 2006-03-19
Ambulance Service has launched a national 'In Case of Emergency ( ICE ) ' campaign. The idea is that you store the word ' ICE ' in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted 'In Case of Emergency'.
In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it.
Please will you also email this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could help the emergency services in doing their job. For more than one contact name use: ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.
